The whole getting your child a birth certificate thing to me has just been confusing. Once Samantha was born, I vaguely remember in the hospital (lots of pain meds & information overload)…hello…Us getting a form of evidence from the hospital of Samantha’s birth. Yet, this little form, was not the “official” form of documentation that she would need in LIFE (i.e.-entry into school, sports teams, proof of life, & the ability to get a passport).
SO-recently, J reminded me that lying in one of my “piles” in the office was the form I would need to submit to get Samantha a REAL birth certificate. I knew it was lying in this “pile”-but it was the “pile” I really didn’t want to touch-the things that I KNEW I needed to get too-but really didn’t want to attack. (Anyone else out there relate?!)
With a swift kick in the “mama duty” reminder from hubby and a combination of a real NEED to get a birth certificate to obtain a passport for Samantha (I’ll explain that bit in a second…) I dove into figuring out where to start.
Long story short, I did all the steps WRONG. So let me save you-my dear OC friends-if you need to get a birth certificate or a marriage license-SAVE the drive to Santa Ana or what I did-heading to a mail center who specialized in notary, paid for the notary, and the shipping of the forms, yadda, yadda, yadda….
INSTEAD-head to the Orange County Clerk Recorder’s location in Laguna Hills at the South County location-the Laguna Hills Civic Center. I was in and out of there within 10 minutes with a certified birth certificate for Miss SG. (It’s also right near Nordie’s Rack & In & Out,
both worth the drive to the Laguna Hills area :)…
So, one my ask, why the rush to get Miss Samantha a birth cert? Well, umm, J & I are doing something a little crazy-a little outlandish-a little shocking-were heading to Italy. With a baby, yup, I said it. For 11 days. In less than 4 weeks. It all came together a bit last minute & totally a trip we just felt for a million reasons we couldn’t pass up.
Yes, were crazy. Yes, we know there is a 9 hour time difference. Yes, we know that we might have moments of panic & uncertainty. (This has already happened some moments of the day when SG gets a tad bit fussy and I think to myself-really, Goodmama, your doing this??!!)
But, overall, were beyond excited-for better or worse-it will be a unforgettable trip 🙂
