On the Plane! |
Mama just finished un-packing. Day One in Deer Valley. The plane ride went
great- we woke up at 3 a.m. on Saturday morning, (a tad bit early) and woke
Samantha up at 4:30 a.m. We arrived At Grandma & Papa’s house around 5 am for
an early morning flight out of the OC.
Sammy sat on our laps, and did a great job of staying close and not needing to
roam. She played on our phones, watched Disney shows on the iPad & we read her
some books. She loved watching the birds in the air, the clouds and the big blue
sky. The only time we struggled was when we were about to land, and suddenly we
zoomed up, back into the sky-high, high up. Too many planes on the run-way!
Those last twenty minutes, Samantha was getting impatient. Luckily, we were able
to keep her sitting until we landed.
Within a matter of hours, we went from 76 degree SoCAL temps to brisk 32 below
(and counting) snow flurries pouring from the sky. The first snow that Deer
Valley has seen in weeks poured from the skies on Saturday when we arrived,
and residents and visitors (especially) were rejoicing.
It was so pretty seeing it all fall to the ground. I can’t remember the last
time I saw snow falling. It was a gorgeous sight to see!
Saturday afternoon, post-nap time, we bundled Samantha up and took her out to
see & play. She loved her first visit outside to see the snow. What she didn’t
understand was why she had to put gloves on. Did not understand these silly
items covering her access to touching her world around her. Hopefully by the
end of the week, she will understand! And hopefully, her mama will also learn
that bundling up is not only desired, but completely necessary!

Sunday morning, Da-Da, Grandma & Grandpa hit the slopes, and Samantha and I are
geared up to hit the “snow”. AND by this I mean, I located the nearest coffee
shop which gave me my desired caffeine fix for the morning.
Sunday morning, I could SO see “it” in the three of their eyes. The “it” look I
have anytime we go somewhere warm and tropical. That utter, and complete burning
desire to “GO”. I can relate it to the “it factor” when I need to put on my work
out clothes in the hot sun and then sun bathe while reading for hours. Its
different for me here, I am enjoying family time, good conversations, moving
slower, taking our time, seeing the sites, taking in God’s creation & having
some yummy meals.
I guess thats the sun lover in me, who prefers “no fuss” to getting ready in the
mornings, (or anytime one leaves for anything outside). Cause around here, a
simple step outside requires multiple layers. And with a toddler-well, lets
just say its enough clothing items to get me through three days at home during
the winter. I feel like an Eskimo.
Skiing? Will I go? Yes, maybe. ( I did!) After the looks and expressions on the
face on the man who fit me for ski’s, upon asking twenty questions regarding
skiing, I would surmise it to say, He would have prefered me to avoid the slopes
for the sake of all.
But, I didn’t take his looks to heart, and decided to go anyways! Monday
afternoon, during nap time, Jordan and I had a Deer Valley Day Date. We had SO
much fun. I pretty much “pie’d” down the hill the whole time, but I made it on a
couple very, very long runs. My favorite part was obviously having a beer with
my babes between runs and seeing the gorgeous views from the lifts. My, OH, my.
God is good. His winter wonderland is just beautiful to take in up here.
Were having a blast, and enjoying the slower pace of not having to “rush”. OH,
and having da-da with us constantly, doesn’t get much better either!
xoxo
